Mission

Providing for the well being of our community, making a difference for tomorrow, bringing us all together

The St. Petersburg Lions Club was founded in 1925 soon after Helen Keller asked the Lions to sponsor the work of the American Foundation for the Blind at the International Convention in Cedar Point, Ohio. “Will you not constitute yourselves Knights of the Blind in this crusade against darkness?” she asked. Lion Wilbur Herrick served as the first club President from 1927 to 1928.

We Serve

Lions Beach House

The beach front property where the Club House stood was purchased on June 13, 1938 for $10. Lion President Burwell Neal’s signature is memorialized on the contract. Ground breaking for the Lions Beach House began in 1939 and the building was completed in approximately 1946 through a grant from Dr. Andrew Holloway. In a recent letter, past member Bill Grant recalled how hard members worked to build the original structure and reminded us how the creosote on the poles that support the building’s main frame irritated everyone’s skin!

The St. Petersburg Lions Foundation was established in 1966. All 100% of the funds raised go directly back into the community through needed services such as eye surgeries, exams and eyeglasses, guide dogs, and academic scholarships.

Due to the devastation from hurricanes Helene and Milton the St Petersburg Lions Beach house was lost. We are in the process of facilitating a rebuild, but in the meantime our event location has changed. We continue to serve. The activity meeting (1st Wednesday) and Board meeting (3rd Wednesday) have been relocated to The Lighthouse of Pinellas 6925 112th Cir N #103, Largo, FL 33773- please check the calendar for updates.

Visitors are always welcome! For further information please contact us at (727)206-5466(LION).

General Information

We are always looking for new members interested in serving others in our community with sight and hearing problems. Call (727)206-5466(LION) if you would like to attend one of our meetings to check out our club and see all the good things we do for others less fortunate. You only have to be as active as you feel compelled to be and there are several areas of opportunity and learning we can offer our members. Ask any Lion for an application and they will be more than happy to sponsor you.
